Wonderful tree, I love the movement and the fruit. I know this is kind of a dumb question, but i'm still new to crabapples and fruiting trees. Is fruit meant to appear around this time?

Beautiful tree Mike ,the fruit look fantastic. Have been growing several for a few years and think I have barely seen a flower let alone any fruit. If possible could you pass on a few tips.

I have one that has about 10 more years development to go and is in fruit now as well so yep. Tis normal now I think

@ Mathew, it's about 20cm high at the most.
@ MountainFrost. Yes fruit is normal for this time of year. It develops slowly over summer. The trouble is that because our summers are so long, sometimes the fruit begins to fall before or at the same time as the leaves. Most of the leaves on this one had begun to fall but the last ones - the late summer leaves - were still green so I cut them off. This variety seems pretty good at hold it's fruit
@ boom64. Bsically the most important tips for these is to repot every year for the first ten years or so. Use a fine potting mix that does not dry out. A bit of loam in the mix is good. Repot in autumn (this time of year), that way it will be already established by flowering time next spring. Use dolomite twice per year. Remove the fruit after a few weeks to rest the tree. Young trees should not be allowed to flower or fruit. Defoliate strong branches to balance the growth. Always water and feed heavily. Wire in summer.
@ Ken. I don't remember exactly. I would guess that it was grafted when pencil thick, ground grown for maybe 2 years and then potted about 3 -4 years ago.
@ Edward. They will probably reduce a bit but you don't need to worry too much about that because you don't really look at it during summer (apart from working on it)

Beautiful small fruits Mike. I have only ever encountered larger fruiting varieties so its a treat seeing them this small. Almost Pyracantha like.

Thanks for the tips Mike . Most have the basic framework and I have spent a lot of time developing nebari . Actually starting to look more like a Maple .Not really sure what do look like.
