So I recently got this nice azalea which my wife sprung for as a b'day gift so my main priority here is going to be keeping it alive and healthy which seems to be going OK for now but it is a big step up for me so fingers crossed.

I can understand the pressure you are under as that is a great looking tree.

good open mix ( Kanuma if you can find it) and water daily or before it ever it looks dry

Great sized tree. Be sure to post a pic when you've got it fully covered in blooms (no pressure...)

Just saw your azalea. WOW what a trunk, I love it. Feel your pressure too.
Read everything you can find about azalea because this tree will be worth the effort
should develop into an excellent tree IMO.

It looks to be in straight Kanuma, a bit old now but is still draining well.Thankfully I can get Kanuma at a local garden center so I shall stock up. If all goes well I will repot next year I think.

Will do, there were a couple of nice pink flowers in the pot so if that is anything to go by it should be a good show, hopefully.

Agreed, I did a fair bit of research beforehand and and still finding more and more to read, there is a good book on amazon but it is about 100 euros so it may have to wait.

I may of poked her in the right direction with a link or two.

This was from Laosgarden in Madrid although I do think the tree is a J import originally. They have a load of nice material and tonnes of pots, might find a nice pot for this tree there too.

Here is one but I have to apoligise for the dodgy beer, it's a 500ml tinny. Still yet to find coopers over here.

Lovely tree. Great gift.

If you do any cutting make sure you seal the branch. Anything on an Azalea that is cut off larger than half a pencil thickness needs to be sealed. They are different to other trees as far as sealing is concerned. You cut and seal. Don't cut the tree back and then come back to seal the cuts, do it as you are cutting.

They love Kahoona fertilizer. They also benefit from Foliage Feeding.

I had notice that all previous big cuts have been sealed and that is something I will do for sure when the time comes. I probably wont make any major cuts anyway this year, just some minor trimming of shoots and whurls.
I can't find Kahoona over here but do have a local azalea product that it seems to like so for now I will go with that one.
