AusBonsai

Due to problems with our normal show site the club decided to do a bonsai fair at our meeting site. This entailed a small display of quality trees, our two regular sales ( Pat and Leigh ) and the club sales table.

Also we had several of the club members working on there trees. I was one of those and spent around 10 hours on this tree

The tree was planted at my parent’s house in 1964. I dug it up 4 years ago and had done some minor work.

It is now well on the road to being a good tree.

nice mate, this is gonna be an awesome tree in the next couple of years when it fills out and some carving work is done i love trees with lots of dead wood

Dead trees have a lot of dead wood
This tree has very interesting shape Peter. Do you have any before and after photos?

I understand you would have only required 4 hours if some pratty youngster didn't bother you for the other 6 hours.

Saw it first hand on Saturday, especially love the movement of the bottom branch.

I did spent a lot of time talking to a variety of people during the day. It was also good to talk face to face with a few of the Aus Bonsai Members including the pratty youngster.

As the tree develops I will post more pics.

I too saw it first hand on Saturday and also really like the bottom branch (style, movement, taper). Not yet convinced that you still need the top one, but you can convince me Peter with another photo in a couple of years.

Hi all,

Here is an update on this tree. Because the tree has sentimental value to me I was reluctant to remove the top branch although it was a bit ugly.

As you can see I have removed it today and the new model looks a whole lot better. It will still need some tweaking and some serious carving but over all I am a lot happier with it.

From the photo, I thought that the top branch gave this tree that unusual factor that makes people either love or hate the tree... I for one, loved it. It was a brilliant way of getting through of a tricky styling situation.

I'm voting with Skip. A brave but correct decision to remove the top branch I think, has improved the tree greatly. Some sensitive carving and you have another winner.
