I got this beauty from the recent Deceased Estate sale on the weekend but I'm not sure of the type of tree it is. Can anyone help with an ID please?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Nitram, all I can say is that I really like it!! This little guy has lots of potential. I cannot wait to see if someone knows what it is. The trunk is similar to my Serissa's but then I saw the leaves and thought........Nope!! I have never seen anything like it.

Looking at the growth I would say some sort of Vine. The leaf stop's me from hazzarding a Vitis or grape family, but there are many leaves that look like this.
It certainly looks as if it has the pontential to become more compact to make it a nice specimen.
May be Grant might know, if not I would take it to one of the many clubs in Melbourne and see if they can help.

Its not an escollonia, the leaves are completely wrong, but it definately has HEAPS of potential. Can't wait to see some future shots!

Wouldnt be a Rhamnus Alaternus (Italian Buckthorn) would it?

Not sure about that Webos. The serration of the leaves on this specimen is far more pronounced. The arrangement of veins on the leaves are quite different and the colour of the leaves are much lighter......but I'll be buggered if I know what it is.

With the bark, the upward growing habit and the leaves I would say it is definitely an Escallonia. If so, the plant tends to be a bit rampant and keeping shape is a regular task but it produces tiny shocking pink trumpet flowers that are beautifully sized and coloured for bonsai.
Get the moss off the trunk. An old toothbrush will do the trick. Goggle Escallonia and see how it matches. I have had a couple over the years and I would put my money on this ID. [Not that I have much so if I lose it I don't lose a lot].

Leaves, bark twigs are a match for Escallonia, leaf shape is a bit different from Escallonia 'Pink Pixie' that is a common hedging. Possibly E.rubra.

Thanks everyone for their input. I'll keep an eye out for the flowers and post more pics.
The trunk is completely clean of all the moss now and the tree looks great. Needs a bit of shaping but I'll wait for flowers first.
Thanks again. Helpful as ever!
