How soon after a root prune and pot into a Bonsai pot would you say it would be safe to put a tree into an exhibition.

I don’t want to compromise the health of a tree.

I personally would say as, I do 3 months, might seem exstreme to some.
That is what I do.

I'd say that depends on the repot and root prune. I understand that many trees destined for major Japanese shows are transferred to a show pot in the weeks leading up to the show but that's more like slip potting than what we would class as repotting.
If your tree is well tied into the pot so it won't fall over or wobble around too much in transit there should be no real problem. A couple of days inside should not really be that much stress.

why would you have to wait at all?
If the tree is healthy then sitting on a stand being admired will not hurt it and they get looked after very well usually.

It’s more that I’m concerned that not watering it for two or three days and leaving it inside might compromise the health of a tree that has recently been root pruned.

Lack of light and over watering is the biggest killer of plants grown indoors. Why would you put a plant, already under stress due to repotting, indoors and putting it under more stress.
I agree with Pup, give it plenty of time to recover before putting it in an exhibition. I don't think the plant will feel any of the 'admiration' it is receiving, but it will feel stressed under the reduced light, probably at wavelengths it can't use any way.
Lack of water will not be an issue. Without suitable light and no wind, drying not will not be a factor.

More convincing is a tree that gives the impression it's been thriving & is "well settled" within it's chosen pot over a period of time. Shows more history & stability.......even better if the pot has a bit of dirty patina &/or wear. (many will disagree)

coupla weeks---- the soil surface needs to look "settled in"-it is usually obvious when moss has been recently placed---

Hi Daluke , mate i re-potted my juniper shohin trunk yesterday afternoon its re-styled , compressed and in the show today . No need to wait , sitting it in a room for a day wont kill it . If its a hot heated area simple take a spray bottle along and mist the tree.
