Hi ..
i'm hoping for someone with a keen eye.
I was given a seedling late 2016.. that was almost dead... in fact i was just a stick in dirt.
re-potted did not hold out much hope.. but it came back from the brink and went nuts...
this is it once it came back to life
Liquidambar seedling.jpg
any way i've been feeding it up for 12 months (see photos) it got to almost 2m tall before cut back in winter

i was told it was grown from seed from a liquid amber (dropped from there tree in front garden) i've seen tree ... 100% a LA
only thing i can think of is some other seed got into the seedling pot....(if its not a LA)
its now taking off again..
can someone look at the leafs & bark and tell me if its a LA or a LA mutant or something else altogether ..

Hi Peter,
so would that mean the tree it came off would be a Liquidamber Orientalis..???
could juvenile leaves change to a more traditional shape as it becomes a mature tree..?
because that tree has these shaped leaves... see link here

That could also be a paw paw tree ( not the tropical one)

Brachychiton acerfolius. I nearly bought one yesterday and worked on a property that had several of these beautiful trees. Spectacular when in flower.

Hi Brewster
Brachychiton discolor - Lacebark tree - Brush Kurrajong.
The juvenile foliage persists for a decade or so . Keep in a deep training pot , wire lightly outwards and reverse wire at around 2 weeks as wire will cut in quickly . also defoliate say 3 times a year during the summer growing period to keep leave to a smaller size.
Tip pinch regularly to force multiple branching .
I have one on adjistment that I'm about to cut back and one I cut back about 5 weeks ago and is just stating to shoot.
