Hey all, Here is my first collection of an Australian native, fingers crossed it will be ok. It is a root sucker which came of a root of about 30-40mm thick & had a fair few fine roots developing below. I severed the root about 50 either side & left as many fine roots as possible, it seems to be doing ok but I'm not familiar with this type of tree & don't know when the signs of stress start shoring. I put it in a course soil mix & a water tray & gave it a light seasol fertalise? hope these were the right steps. There are a few interesting root suckers around this area & will probably be going back for another one. I have attached a copy of what I would hope this tree would eventually turn out like but it may be wishfull thinking...hehehe..not sure how to style the tree as I know the needles can become long & hang. It has a nice natural taper & i will probably try & keep it a small tree 300-400mm max. Can anyone guide me in the direction of how to pick new branched on casuarina's, are all new needed shoots potential branched & do I just pick a few that I want for branched at the early stage & remove the rest?

Cheers all

G,day Ryan this looks to an excellent find. First lets hope it survives, the your Virtual is possible because Casuarnia pop shoots all over if you don't like where it is rub it off and wait for the next ones to pop.
Now you seem to have found a supply of possibles. May I make a suggestion for a much more reliable success rate.
When you go next time do not be in a hurry, cut through one part and fiil that with soil. Then go back in one month when it has formed roots, and do it on the other side, then in one month go and get it with fresh young live roots. That way you have got a tree that will survive.
It will be much stronger you can do some trimming or shaping while this happen's. Although if you have success with what you are doing, just ignore me and go ahead. It is much quicker your way. ;)

Any way Just an opinion cheers Pup :)

Cheers pup,

I think I might do that while I am watching the health of this one, should I give them a fertilize as well to help boost there growth? :?:

Not fertiliser but some Seasol would not go astray .

Ok cool, I have some of that too?..Oops I hope giving the other one a light fertalise won't hurt it, I used the Seasol Power feeder using the transplant ratio? fingers crossed anyway. ;)
