I figured i should start a thread for this piece instead of hijacking the create a rock thread anymore than i already have.

This started off as a foam roller, the type you use to help with muscle pain. My goal now is to keep the shimpaku alive, and finish the waterfall feature.

Feel free to give me any and all criticisms and feedback as this is my first time doing this.

I was following the other thread and I think now it’s planted, it should quieten the “giant chicken” comments.

Is that Moss in the smaller crevices? Also how many trees is that all up?

Do you know a good source for those Shiwan Mudmen? Flea bay only seems to have a couple.

Yes that is moss in the smaller crevices that i collected near my house. 3 tree's total, they are cery young with no training. If they live ling enough to thicken considerably they should look great. I picked up the figue from bonsai world, along with the shimpaku.

Well done on creating the rock - very ingenious. My tip, however, is to develop the junis first and then place them on the rock - it will take absolutely ages to get good looking trees to grow vigorously in the small pocket of soil. After trying to get a good looking composition using raw juni stock on tufa I gave up after 6 years - they just didn't grow much at all. Knowing what I do now I'd air layer some yamadori junis off my stock trees after twisting the shizz out of them, grow them out for a year or two then place them in the pockets.

I can definitely see your point. The next rock project i am working on will utilise more established trees.
