Hey folks,

I am staying in an apartment in Sydney that is surrounded by these lovely tall trees. I was wondering if it was some type of hornbeam/elm or other related species?

It is a bit difficult to work out from just those 2 photos. The leaves look a bit like Celtis?
Maybe someone up there will recognise these pictures.

I would probably go with Celtis too, most likely c.australis. They are planted all over the place here so would do well in Sydney. The smooth bark is a good indicator as well.

I was not sure Celtis would be planted because it is a weedy species but maybe that's only further north.
Celtis australis is listed on City of Sydney street trees species list http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/__da ... -PartB.PDF
The only possible others on the list are Ulmus parviflora and Zelkova and the leaves in the picture do not appear right for either of those species.

I'd say Celtis too. Plenty of these planted as street trees in Adelaide as well.
