With all the spare time in the world I have found the the right candidates for another Phoenix Graft .These have been laying around for a few years so its time to put some effort in . A basic carving has taken place with a more detailed sesson on the cards today , finally getting around to using the carving bit from Bonsaisensation .

Like all good Bonsai it takes time and it is a progression after all .

The carving looks great and the deadwood is super interesting - very sculptural! Looking forward to seeing it all come together, I reckon it’ll become another Alpine signature piece...

After a marathon effort , this is the result of another trainer . I removed 4 of the back branches to embed the trunk into the stump , re-potted , then wired all the remaining branches and give it a basic shape .A couple of years down the track it should look the goods .

Hi Ryceman3 , it came together with a bit of effort and plenty of wire .

Hi Biocs , very happy with the result , plenty of foliage left to help thicken the trunks and fill in the canopies . Not all the foliage pads will be used several are sacrifice which will probable be layered off at a later stage .

Well if it's meant to be it's up to me , this was un-wired trimmed and re-wired today all good as far as the tree goes .

Having done my first graft and only graft I know I would love to do more.

Any advice on finding deadwood material?

Hi ATTF , thanks mate , as for the deadwood I have tried red gum roots , , mallee roots , melalueca stumps and in a way blessed to have these Juniper deadwood stumps. they were collected alive but didn't make it . Re-birth for Phoenix Grafts now . Hardwoods don't like the wet -dry -wet caper and fungus attacks and decay sets in
All the hardwoods rot very quickly even when sealed , juniper obviously has the right substance to reduce and prevent the rotting . Cypress pine would be a worthy candidate although I have never tested it .
