Hello Bonsai Friends!

I'm the proud owner of a Serissa Foetida, which is due for repotting, I was wondering being Serissa a sub-tropical plant would it be better to repot in november / december (early summer) instead of spring (now)?

I would personally wait until this spell of cold mornings we are having in Melbourne has well and truly passed.

I don't envy you the job though, i'm not a fan of the smell of serissa roots

So really we are talking September/October? Don’t mind the smell!

I repotted a serissa (or 3) this past weekend. I am no expert - so I might have blown it - timing wise?

I don't have my phone on me now (to download the pictures) but I'll post one soon; given what TimS stated ... I might be posting it for posterity; it looked fine this evening but given it's only four days since repotting ... who knows.

MJL, just keep them protected from frosts is probably the main thing. They tend to have very fibrous root systems that grow rampantly so the repotting won't be an issue. I personally just prefer to wait a little longer around mid September to do them though i'm sure others would feel happy to repot now.

Did you remove lots of roots? or just a trim trim?

I repot mine 2 weeks ago and leaves are turning brown, i may have lost all 3, they are now sitting in the green house, will be sad if i lose any of them, 2 out of 3 were one of my first trees and the favourite was also put into a very nice PK pot

Sorry to hear that... hopefully they’ll recover with the warmth of the greenhouse!!! But yes being a sub tropical plant would make sense to repot when it’s hotter same as fig trees.

Hi Pureheart - I reckon I took a good 3rd or a tad more off the roots. They were fine and fibrous. It's hard to see but I have combined three trees into one clump because the middle had rotted out of one of the trees. That left two branches hanging unnaturally and precariously. So I combined them. The pot is too big - but it is really in training. I will be cutting back branches to encourage back budding in spring. Here's the photo's from last weekend and then a few from this morning. (PS - Banong - I hope you don't lode your trees. good luck. Mark )
