is there a size limit for fig root cuttings?? and when would be the best time to take the cuttings?

Ive found this PJF next to my house that is easily the largest fig ive ever seen, its at least 3 metres wide through the trunk..... I want to take some root cuttings from it because the branches are just too thick to air layer and the smaller branches are too high up to get too.

Hi weetbicks, my attempts with PJ root cuttings all failed they sat for months before they shriveled up, still worth a try if you can get them Cheers Peter

Hi Weetbicks
I'm with Peter all my PJ root cuttings failed too.
However if you mean airial root cuttings that's different.
I have tried those off PJF and they grew shoots at the tip eventually
Mine were too thick to bend plus developed reverse taper issues at top so I gave up on them
A branch cutting or airlayering a tapered branch section would get you a bonsai quicker I think.

As far as I'm aware, only willow leaf figs will grow from root cuttings. And even if PJF did, how would get a piece that gave you something worthwhile from such a large tree?
