Light coloured new growth on Juniper

Hi,

Has anyone experienced the following discolouration on their junipers? At first I thought it maybe just new growth but it’s not turning green. It’s fairly even throughout the tree and only at the tips. Could this be an iron (or some other mineral) deficiency? The tree hasn’t been repotted for some time so that could be contributing to the issue.
Hopefully someone can advise what I need to do.

John

Hi John,
I'm pretty sure these are healthy spring pollen cones.

What is your fertiliser regime like? Could it be a lack of nutrients causing pale fresh growth?

I put in some of the Neutrog Sudden Impact fertiliser pellets each month for the past two months. I’ve done the same last year as well with no issues. Maybe I need to give it a more complete fertiliser for a while and see what happens.

Hard to tell as the photo isn’t clear when you zoom in, but I would lean towards kcr’s suggestion of it being cones

John I think your tree is really healthy & in full vigour.

Once the tiny cones have fallen away, (if they haven't already) your fresh new spring growth will rapidly start to extend.
Some don't get to see this, due to overly excessive pinching, which if continually done will exhaust the tree. :(

Hey John M,

If it makes you feel any better - here are a couple of photos of two of my Juni’s.

Very similar in colour on the new flush of growth. If anything this growth was even brighter a week or two ago. I reckon my trees are healthy and growing vigorously. Same with yours. I hope so anyway.

Thanks everyone,

I just wasn’t sure - I haven’t seen the new growth so bright green before. I must be doing something right. Cheers
