[NATURAL] Agonis flexuosa - RustyK

Species: Agonis flexuosa “Willow Myrtle“
Trunk: 1cm
Source: Bonsai World
Cost : $16
My Skill Level: Low

Now this one is a wildcard - I was looking for a lemon scented lepto or a Baeckea, but sadly all the lepto’s were too large and couldn’t remember what Baeckea was reclassified as not native and which is (I still picked one up though haha).

I’ve seen some interesting Agonis posts but not many with Willow Myrtle.
But I did see a David’s large Willow Myrtle - so I’m interested to see where I can take this one.

Sorry for the photos, I cut off a low branch so we can see the measurements a lot easier! it was right on the money.

Hi Rusty,

Check the foliage well. To me that foliage looks like the start of myrtle rust on the bottom leaves.
In particular this species are highly susceptible to it.

Remember guys, you can chop and change any tree before 31st January 2019.

Kind regards,
Rory :)

Hi Rusty

The pics you have emailed me are confirmation its Myrtle Rust.

See the puffy yellow texture, they are the spores of the Rust. You can treat it with triforine, or bin it. As its young and nothing to really pursue, I'd bin it.
try to be careful when dealing with it. If you bump the spores it usually spreads like a cloud. But just remember its now endemic here.

Just put up another entry if you like and this one will be void.

:)

Myrtle rust is everywhere throughout NSW now, but you'll struggle with the health of this so its up to you, but I'd start a new entry.

Thanks mate,
I will take your advice, plastic bagged it and binned it, hoping it didn’t transfer so I will keep an eye out.

Hopefully a better photos for others to look out for!

Hey mods,
Can we change the title of this to Myrtle Rust and move it to the pests room for other members to check?

Cheers
