Mate,

defiantly a cedar. My money is on deodara but it could be atlantic. Some of my southern friends who grow them may be able to help :D

The growth habbit (upright) suggests to me that it is an atlantic cedar as the deodora tends to grow more like ground cover while it is young
I just photographed mine to compare
cedrus atlantica

first glance, I would say atlantica, hard to tell from these photos if it is deodora. deodora has a longer softer? (Ok, it's still a ceder) needle, the new growth on a deodora sort of weeps? hanging down a bit, atlantica does not do this.

hope this helps :D :geek:

Thanks for the quick replies

These are the best photos I can provide (phone) of the tree.

Twosdale - thanks for the cedar comparison photos. It does appear to resemble the Cedrus Atlantica picture moreso than the Cedrus Deodera one.

Paddles - the needles on the cedar are quite rigid and no longer than 30mm long. The tree doesn't seem to have any weeping tendancies either, nor has it shown any ground cover growth habits as Twosdale mentioned, so I guess it is looking as if it is Cedrus Atlantica.

Thanks once again.
