Dog walking again and stopped by a bonsai friend's place, looked at his collection and spotted a cluster of potted figs lurking under a tree. I was welcome to take any I wanted so I viewed the talent and popped these two in my bag. They have been root pruned and potted and sitting ready for the new spurt of growth. They will make nice minis. Once they settle in and start to fatten up they should start to look good. I think the bottom one will have to be reduced further as the trunk is not thick enough to carry this height but I like the trunks too much to cut back at the moment. Fatal flaw... but once shooting starts it will be easier to reduce and I think the left branch has to come way back or go altogether. But going means the tree will look very tall and skinny. It's about 18cm tall now and I think it should be shortened to remove the top angle - that's better balance. Well, guess I might as well go out and do it now.....

I love figs! In a year or so you will already have some nice branches!

have you got plans on what you are after? i think if these were mine i would be going for full canopies, not pads. but thats just me, and i think you are spot on with getting rid of the left hand side on the second one

You are so lucky to have a friend that will give you good material like these.
Knowing your talent they will be excellent minis in no time.

I'm waiting until they shoot before selecting the termination point - particularly on the leader as it has such nice jigs instead of curves but it is too tall and it has to be reduced. But let them sit, lick their wounds, discover a pot full of goodies, plenty of water and sun and it won't be long before they will be WILD.
