Does anyone know where I can get advanced Shimpaku stock? I know Shibui has them but they won't be ready 'till summer.

I went xxxx nursery, and gee they're expensive. Over $200 for a pre-bonsai with 1.2cm trunk. Is this normal?

But 200 seems excessive for what your describing. what nursery was it?

Yeah I’m not far from Bonsai Art, the prices are steep. Tien at Bonsai Sensation is more reasonable but last time I was there he didn’t have a lot of shimpaku that I could see. Mind you i’m blind to virtually anything not deciduous

I found Shimpaku to be more expensive than other types of junipers. That's why I decided to grow my own stock 4years ago. They are very slow growing trees. Prices were around $250 for a decent size advance stock in nurseries.

If it is a straight trunk around 2-2.5cm. If it has movement around 1-1.5cm. In my experience, trunk with bends tend to grow slower than a straight trunk. This was 4years back. I don’t know price range of shimpaku now.
