Banksia Integrifolia 01

And I have finally transitioned into the realm of banksias. Here's a few photo's of a little guy I picked up and lopped the top off of a few weekends ago.

Nice size to start with
Do you plan for the branch to take over the trunk?
Are you expecting the trunk to rot? Or do you leave such a long over cut to make a jin?

The leader going up will be part of the continuation of the trunk, but will be cut back again in a few years to create taper. And then again and again.
I was allowing for a bit of die back after the chop, which I'll remove at a later date.
I don't think jin are really appropriate for banksias as they don't have them in the wild, the dead branches usually just rot and fall off.
