Decided to get started on some Natives

I’ve decided that I might start a few new native trees to see how they go. My local council runs a nursery selling native stock local to my area. I bought 6 different species of plants so I can judge how they grow over time. I’ve added some wire to give them some movement. Next I’ll plant them in some small colanders and put them in the garden.

Excellent choices there Mike.
They’ll thicken well, and it’s also my preference to grow from such a young age too.
I would just recommend that if you are ground growing, not to leave them in the ground too long before you lift and cut the roots. Try to keep the roots in chceck.
Have fun and enjoy them.

Ditto what Rory said. Natives are relatively quick to grow so you'll be surprised at the progress, you won't recognise them from these pics in 12 months!
Probably less likely to be as thirsty when in colanders/ground as opposed to pot culture - but keep an eye on the watering in any case, I reckon having ample water available is one of the main triggers for getting maximum growth. You've picked some nice species to start with and adding some twists and bends definitely can't hurt, good luck with them!

I love the movement you have created with the Leptospermum.
