You know the addiction has taken hold when ... ... you pack a tree in your hand luggage on the trip home from a holiday in Queensland.

This little dude took a tumble through the x-ray machine but made it home undamaged. I received a few odd glances but hey, I was happy and the trees was pretty safe between my feet, under the seat.

It's a little JPB - future shohin; a solid base from which I can grow my skills and hopefully a fine tree in future. I noted in separate threads that I am new to pines but having lessons - I think a reasonable little tree (such as this) will be good to learn pine-related technique. Crap photos but the base is about the size of the top of the can. Plus, it means something. Part of this trip was to visit our 99 year old grandmother, Lyse and this tree will be a constant memory of that trip and I'll think of Lyse as this tree grows.

Your out of control Mark you are addicted.

Can relate to the addiction! I have had to force myself into ‘bonsai sobriety’, but sometimes the need is strong!

Some people are being disrespectful Mark. I think actions like that are normal.

Ha! Keels, Greg, Tim, Watto.... perhaps this forum is the B.A.A as Greg puts it...AusBonsai... a place to feel normal doing stuff that other people and dogs tilt their head and wonder at ... my kids and wife did walk slightly ahead of me at the airport ... close enough for support but far enough that they could disown me should the need arise!

Sadly .... didn't make the trip well. Actually, it's new laster mistreated it and I went to hard on repotting over winter.

I figure it's important that people know that killing trees is part of the learning process - that's how I rationalise it anyway.

It’s all part of bonsai mate, they are living entities so one way or another they will eventually die. If you learned something in the process then it wasn’t a waste

Mmmm.... stuff happens MJL, but like Tim says, chalk it up to experience and use what you learnt to keep improving the trees you have left. Appreciate the update even though the news wasn’t ideal.

My luggage, hand luggage and multi pocketed jacket usually bring back about 20kg of pots when I go to japan. No wonder I had a heart attack.

I usually pack a tonne of bubble wrap and a spare carry on bag. The pots go in the carry on and the bottles of sake go in the checked baggage. No breakages so far *touchwood*

I’m super keen to go back and have my holiday that got cancelled but I won’t be rushing back just yet!
