For what it's worth.......

I recently needed to bend a branch on one of my trees and could not really use wire coiled around the branch as it would eventually cut into the bark which in my opinion was still a bit tender. I guess I could have used vet wrap but this would have prevented new shoots from possibly emerging in that area. So to cut a long story short I used a guy wire. In order to prevent it cutting into the branch (Seeing as it is going to be there for quite a while) , I purchased some transparent tubing from "B**********gs". (As shown below) It comes in lots of sizes and I have found it to be very handy. So if this is something you have'nt considered, now you know.

P.S. The picture below shows the guy wire on a Japanese Black Pine.

GOTCHA!!! It's a Serissa                     As if!!!!

Hi Jamie, I have the tree in another post.

viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2376

It is about halfway down the document. You can't miss it. And Yes, the foliage is extremely tight.

Funny you should bring that up, i too this last few days did the same. I think its even better than winding the wire around the branches.

I also use the tubing if I have making a cradle around a pot to guy branches down so the tubing protects the pot from possible wire scratching. Not important on most commercial pots but if the pot is Mirkwood or Mudlark I prefer to take special care. I would rarely use it to wire a branch but almost always use it if I am working with guy wires.

It is also better to use copper wire for guy wires as it is stronger than aluminium.
