Still Healthy?

As a lot of you know, my maple layer has been on for a while now and there is HEAPS of buds forming right below the layer, just need to know if this is normal.

i dunno bout that mate, have you checked the layer to see if any roots have formed? i know the layer i put on my cork bark elm is pushing lots of new growth, but it is also got new roots, brown and white ones :D

Not unusual to get new shoots below the layer
Same would happen if youjust cut the top instead
Remove them if you think they are not needed in the eventual style of the tree, otherwise leav 'em

thanx guys...i was starting to get worried. Theres still no roots but it has only been on for a few weeks (and i really didn't look that hard!)

Donl;t worry about looking for roots till about 6 - 8 weeks at least after putting a layer on

i got roots on my cork bark elm after 5-6 weeks, same on the trident :D
