Figurine to complement trees

I usually bring one of my trees inside for a week or so before swapping it for a different one and often place this ceramic figurine next to the pot or in the pot. I find it adds a little bit of interest and have quite got to like this little fella having a rest under my trees. So for the sake of Mark (MJL) and other like-minded growers I've posted this .
Cheers, Frank.

Onya Frank. Thanks for posting - the little dude is enjoying the sun in a nice setting. Yeah - I am a fan of figurines .... I just like ‘em. Initially it added interest (for me) in forests and penjing-like landscapes that were young and needed a bit more detail. Then, I just started to like them. I still use a bridge or rocks or figurines .... or a combination in nearly all my group settings.

That said, I now have a couple of single trees that are nearly good enough to stand alone and I’ve noted that the figurine becomes a distraction.

I hope you and everyone is remaining safe and healthy.

The older bonsai folk were dead against anything except trees and rocks in bonsai pots. Ornaments were forbidden at BSV shows and if a tree turned up with one it was promptly confiscated by one of the members until one tree turned up with the temple firmly glued to the pot :P

By that time there was a more liberal attitude starting and it was accepted that Penjing and Chinese artists in particular used ornaments a lot. The oldies were overruled, but continued to voice disapproval, and ornaments have been allowed since then.

I believe that Japanese bonsai growers feel that if the tree can't stand up without extra adornment then it is not good enough to show. Chinese tradition seems to accept that ornaments add to the story.

Enjoy your little man in the forest RB
