Re: Autumn 2020
It must be getting late in Autumn when the Chinese elms start to change.
Apologies for the crappy photo
Most others have now dropped leaves so I've started on the winter trimming.

Re: Autumn 2020
Shishigashira motherstock plant just giving me a reminder why i love this cultivar so much. It's looking a bit worse for wear this year after i removed about 5 air layers that were on it, so it needs a few years to regrow now.

Re: Autumn 2020
Back home for a few days to send a Pallet of Kanuma off to Mugo Bonsai in Adelaide.
Noticed a bit of colour on the benches and my Liquid Ambar is particularly bright this year

Re: Autumn 2020
Ignoring that it needs a trim (badly) the Autumn colours are pretty fine

Re: Autumn 2020
A fine tree Toparius - a larger photo would be welcome, there's a lot of detail in there. Is it a Fraxinus?

Re: Autumn 2020
That colour in the Liquidamber has intensified. Most of my leaves have been blown off in the recent bad weather... Always next year!

Re: Autumn 2020
I decided that it was worth bringing this tree in to enjoy a bit of the autumn colour. I quite like the effect with the block prints and the grey background. I find a tree inside the house always seems more substantial than on a bench. Please excuse the wire, it will all be off soon.

Re: Autumn 2020
Nice trees all!
Great autumn round here.
I've never seen such good colours on my trees.
Can someone refresh my memory as to why?
I live inner city fringe.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: Autumn 2020
Best autumn colour comes with:
healthy foliage
cold nights
sunny days
So this year we have had a good autumn with better than usual rain. That means late summer leaves were healthy. Eventually if got cold at night and there have been some great, warm, sunny days to go with those colder nights so that gives you better autumn colour.
Without any one of those autumn colour will be less bright.
There may also be some other factors like how quick the cold comes in?
