Shohin stand

So there is a section stepping up to my bonsai garden that doesn't blend in well with the rest of the garden theme. The bare colour bond fence is a bit of an eyesore that has been left long overdue for a makeover. With some surplus materials left over from a recent reno job I thought it is a good time to naturalise the colour bond fence. Inspired by my good lady wife with her obsession of Chinese circular display shelf (she bought 3!!) I thought why not build another one to add to her collection and fix up that ugly fence at the same time. :fc:

One of our indoor display shelves - these are collect items from our recent Japan trip, some mame pots by Yoshiyuki Kawada on 2 mini display shelves and various shohin pots from Tokoname.

What did you make the benches out of?

hi Michael - these are merbau timber 150 x 40 x 1800. Scored these at a closed down timber yard auction a while back. The off cuts are used to make individual shohin stands in the photos.

Very nice. Personally I don't like bonsai benches that are too showy as they can draw the eye away from the bonsai. I believe bonsai benches should almost disappear. Some of the best bonsai are often displayed on benches that are just cinder blocks with a couple of wooden planks on top.
