Hi there crazy kids!! When I was at the Campbelltown Bonsai Exhibition on Saturday (Which I must say well worth the trip) there was small tree there with the label simply saying "Unknown" . Does anyone know what the following is?

Looks similar to a "Tecomaria capensis" Cape Honeysuckle (if it gets orange flowers) or "Radermachera sinica" China Doll....
Could you get a close up of the leaf mate, would make it easier to I.D.

I think you can rule out China Doll as the leaves in your picture have slightly serrated margins whereas the China Doll's I have seen have entire margins.
Apart from that, not able to help with this one!
I'll ask a housemate if no-one has helped you before wednesday (he is away atm).

Hi Shannon, here is another photo I took when I was at the exhibition but the quality is not great. Hope this helps. The owner told me it has never flowered !!

if it doersnt get the flowers then it isnt cape honeysuckle, they get tubular flowers by the mass, it does have a similar foliage to cape honeysuckle though, this one is just a bit more oval to point shape than the cape honeysuckle which is more of a round shape. serations on the leaves are similar though.

Jester, I will copy this one and give it a try on Gardenbuddies. They are brilliant at plant ID.
Im thinking cape honeysuckle myself, bark and leaves look right, and its very common and easy to grow.

greth i would of gone that way too but from what jester has said the owner of the tree has said it has never flowered, when i had mine it flowered profusely for the three years i had it, i lost it due to a repotting mishap, i took to many roots of and it didnt like it, which is unusual as they are generally a very hardy tree.

yeah my money is on desert ash..

has to be a cape honey suckle,looks very similar to mine, just because it never flowered doesnt mean it never will. Some years mine doesnt flower,but when it does it makes up for it. The bark also looks same as mine.that plant is a beauty.will send you a picture of mine and its flower soon.

That definatley is a vine,their not branches. Stems are more softer looking too.

Thanks for the better pic Jester Think I'll stick to my first answer of cape honeysuckle, I've owned one before and it wasn't regular with the flowers. Any idea's of age mate??

Unfortunately not Shannon. I only know the owner had it in his possession for about 3 years which is'nt much help I guess.

when i had my cape honeysuckle i had it flowering every year til it died, im starting to lean to the ash family aswell with the leaf formation and shape, not to mention the trunk, whether it is desert ash i couldnt be sure maybe one of the others??
