I stumbled across some flowering cherry I’m hoping I can take cuttings from.

Does anyone have any success stories or advice?

It seems the jury is out with softwood v. hardwood

TIA

Do you have the opportunity to make air layers on it? If so, that may be a better alternative to cuttings. I definitly would take cuttings and try anyways though, no harm in trying and then posting what the outcome was :2c:

Airlayers on my Kanzan all failed and leaked sap out of them. Can’t recommend it.

I take cuttings that are the tip growth from the current year, cut just under where the new growth starts you will see the bump I take cutting in Winter. Dip in hormone powder they take awhile to strike and the success rate is not great. I have managed to get three out of ten cuttings as an example to grow and eventually flower. Larger cuttings don’t strike at all for me. So patient’s is required but it can be done.
