I thought I already had a thread for this tree, but maybe I posted it elsewhere ... in any case, this is a progression of a native piece of tubestock I picked up from a Co-Op nursery about 18 months ago. It was labelled as L.Lanigerum but I am not so sure that is the case ... I think @Sno had other ideas, but I'm not sure how given there is no thread - which makes me think I posted it somewhere else...!
Anyway, here it is at this time last year ... ...yep small, but it was a prolific grower - by then I had already wired and unwired it in the 6 months before.
I had a cunning plan. I was going for the most bends I could possible put in a tiny seedling. It seemed up to the challenge so I just kept bending it, and so now I have this ... So I tamed it a touch ... well, more directed the mayhem the way I wanted with a bit more wire - I actually straightened stuff out to be honest! This is a great tree to work on, whatever it is. It bends a long way without snapping, it seems to want to back bud and it is a very prolific grower. It ticks many boxes ... very cool!

Nice! Just be careful of the wires!
Doesn't take much to deliver some scars to undo all your good work.

Yep ... Some of these trees/trunks have ridiculous twists and turns in the wild ... I reckons this tree will be a really interesting progression. Cool post to keep an eye on.

Have to love a good twist and turn ,well done.

Initial styling is brave and has resulted in a greatly unique tree. I will be keeping an eye on this as well, fantastic start.

It’s had more airings than I’ve had hot dinners it seems... at least now it has a dedicated space.

An update on this tree since I did a bit of work on it today. Needs to have a bit of wire but I'll get to that when I have a little more time. Things are thickening up pretty well I think.

Great tree R3 ,my favourite so far. A few more years and the base of the trunk is going to look sooo good. I have one similar and the tight bends are nearly touching ,sure fattens up the trunk. Cheers John.

Thanks John and Grant, this really is a fun little thing to work on, I’m looking forward to continuing to watch it develop. I went back to the native co-op nursery where I got the tubestock recently but they didn’t have any. Now I wish I’d picked up a couple more earlier...

OK - today was too nice a day to "work" inside, so I decided to enjoy a bit of sun while it's still around and wired this tree out.

This is looking great R3 ,needs a nicer pot .

To me this looks like L grandifolium , when I looked it up on PlantNET it had it as also
Synonyms: L lanigerum var. grandifolium , maybe why it was labelled as lanigerum
I grow a L lanigerum as a landscape and bonsai which grows completely different to what I call L grandifolium . The landscape ones leaves are narrower probably due to a lot less water .

Yep... that second photo is definitely it! The foliage/bark is a dead spit. So, what do you reckon... I’m happy just to go with L. Grandifolium from hereon in. I’m pretty sure you called this for me when it was a lot smaller. Thanks for the input (again)!
