Soil Experiment

I've only ever used bonsai soil mixes but this year I want to try a 100% inorganic mix with a couple of trees using 70% pumice/30% zeolite.
I ran an experiment to see how much faster the 70% pumice/30% zeolite would dry out compared to the bonsai soil mix which is mostly organic. This involved watering both at the start and weighing each pot every day.
To my surprise, the bonsai soil mix lost water each day at twice the rate of the 70% pumice/30% zeolite mix.
