This area used to be a raised garden bed. Got it dug out, layed some reasonably priced trevatine pavers and made some benches/tables that should withstand the weather.

Best of all it was at my wifes suggestion, since she was sick of all the plants placed around our backyard haphazardly.

Nice set up but you need a few more trees! Ha ha ha

I'll be moving to a new house in the coming months and i'm looking for inspiration for bonsai bench set ups at the moment, this looks to have turned out very well indeed

Please be aware that trees against a wall need to be turned every week or 2 so they get even light on all sides. If you don't turn them enough the back branches get weaker and can even die off.
2 rows of those boxes could become problematic for rotating the trees unless you have them sitting on turntables.

Such a good point, didn’t think about that for my own temporary bench (2 rows as well). I guess it’s time to turn them this week.

That’s a very nice setup, although I can see a few empty spots where you could cram in a few more trees.

Ha! There are plenty more hidden from view that I haven't moved. And quite a few yama Desert Ash in a grow bed waiting.

You're a lucky man "BlamJams" to have a wife with such brilliant idea. Nice benches...Hope you've spent bit extra to seal those priced trevatine pavers as they tend to attract mould after a while particularly with all the fertilizers washing down from your bonsai collection.

I did debate sealing, and since I was unsure about the benefits for this type of area, it I thought I'd just do it rather than regret it. Had no idea about mould, so that's a good headsup.

Hi Pureheart,
I used treated pine all round, for longevity sake, and to get something put together quickly and cheaply.
I did think later, that I could have used pine decking, for the slats. I purchased, and broke down, those plinth boards that run along the bottom of fences (150mmx25mm) so they have a decent thickness to them. I'd been using these prior, to construct the grow boxes that you can see there.

Thanks I was wondering what where you using for the plant boxes! I'm just a noob in these things.... question the treated pine you used for the plant boxes isn't it going to harm the plant? aren't the chemicals leaking into the soil?
