This isn't a bonsai BUT I have my eye on it to maybe become a bonsai. With foliage colour like this its a no brainer for me however my darling has other ideas.
I'll keep you posted if it become a reality, if there is no further correspondence you will know I have failed to convince her. Wish me luck.

Don’t give up on this one Watto, it would make a beautiful bonsai.
Whenever I poach something from the garden or a pot, I make sure I buy a similar or more suited plant as a replacement, so that I’m actually doing us a ‘favour’ by improving the garden or patio.

You can go the other way with this as well, eg. "hey you know that maple out the front? yea it was infested with scale, I got rid of it so it didn't spread to any other plants".

That cheeky little trident has to go.
Good thoughts so far and from opposite ends of the spectrum, thank you.

To the love of your life (wife not bonsai!)
“I love the maple but those beautiful colours are just not quite right in that rustic pot!”
Yes I see what you mean...
“Hmm - I might look at a new glazed pot for the maple and put something more applicable in the terracotta.”
That’s why I love my Watto, you’re a genius ..
“Thanks”
....
When the new pot is small and shallow ....
Watto!!!
“What!?” ... “I said glazed...”
And ...
Run.
