what was; was boring and full of my 1st years mistakes!!! so just to prove again that the sheoak loves to dance. this is what i have done.

so many myths and legends i will never understand why??? so 2 weeks later; yep you guys no the drill. makem or breakm

stay tuned; its now 2 weeks on again and if my gut is right again the next installment is not far away. btw no airlayers, in the bin for that piece of crap.

there was nothing there when i decided to repot. now you just gotta wait but im happy.

That's the ticket. This is what I have done with tube stock this year as a test, mixed results, banksias have donethe best for me.

sheoak have not failed me yet! piece of pie jezz! banksia are definately no prob. bottle brushes are a pain in the arse, connot be brutal at all. ? i have learnt that natives like a soaking b4 and after a repot. some times i have left them soaking from the previous day. maybe something to do with the droughts and floods of australia

No can do, don't believe in decent photos

Basically cut the tube stock back to a small stump, and cut te roots back to what is the start of a nebari. Was small scale to test how well they take, the two banksias have budded like crazy and are growing, one of the two sheoaks have pushed new buds on the trunk, starting to go crazy. I also have about 12 banksia serratas up from seed. At the repot I cut the bottom out leaving just a few of the root and they all have continued to grow.

Nice cut. Seems quite low for easy incorporation into a new trunk, but time will tell!
I've found torulosa quite strong when it comes to severe pruning. Some have resprouted within a month, while others have taken more than 6 months. I had also cut the roots back by about 2/3rds.
I'd expect you will see new shoots just below the cut, and it you could also get shooting lower down, though there is not a lot of 'lower down' left.

thanks kunzea; yes im really starting to love these trees. very predictable and bonsaiable.

yeah im with you no airlayers yes they can be good but it often is only a $25 peice of stock that your airlayering and it slows the trees progress to much often not worth it hackem

Hope it all works out for you. I like the attitude of make em or break em Maybee I need to use it a bit.
I think it will make a great tree if it does survive the hair ( or should I say Head Cut ) which I have no dout it will. Keep up the great posts

Hey Ant, just wandering if you had considered a raft? Shapeless trees with little movement make pretty nice raft, especially one that tall. I imagined a distinct lovely forest of 5 rough barked sheoaks in a row. I thought the idea would have been nice because you dont see raft style casurinas very often and it suits the species because you sometimes see them growing in a row. Anyway thats just my idea, but what you did was fine as well, but will take more time to develop. Maybe your intention was to keep the thick base and not loose that girth. Good luck, hope to see the tree in future.
