Yesterday I scouted out some new locations for this weekend’s dig with the SA Bonsai Society.

Found a new site we haven’t been to before with more and better quality trees than our usual place. I’m excited!

I’ll post some more pics Sunday evening.

:worship:

Any sign of some horrible deciduous weeds that us conservationists should remove for the public good?

I'll be on the Saturday dig this time round... to grab all the best ones :tu:

Hey Greg - I didn't see any other species, it was pretty much a monoculture. Other species would most likely be down in the gorge. See the light green patch in the valley in the first photo? I reckon that's Ash, but that's a hell of a hike (especially the climb out with a tree under your arm).

Not only are the South Australians setting the standard for digs this year, but now they are rubbing it in just because I'm in lockdown :shake: :x :(
Good hunting.

Olives, olives everywhere, so let's all have a dig.

It was an awesome morning for digging - nice and sunny, and no shortage of stock to choose from. Pretty much every tree in the scenery photos are olives.

I grabbed one larger one with nice bark, one medium one, and a few smaller ones. The small ones were growing as little clumps and had very small leaves so could be something interesting one day. I also grabbed a boxthorn - horrible spiky bastard but it has nice bark and some movement. I might split it into two trees to take advantage of both trunks.

By the looks of it us greenies are going to to have an up hill battle trying to get rid of olive trees in SA . Some nice material coming out for you guys .

We had another great day of digging today. The weather was good and I've never seen so many quality olives in the one area. I didn't grab any for myself but we had some terrific finds. Here's a taste:

I left this one because of time and effort restraints, but I might go back and get it later. Any thoughts? The branch on the right is cool but the trunk starts off pretty straight.
