white pine shaping

I decided to do something with this tree which has been sitting around for years. One of a group of seedlings sown in 2000.
It's pretty ordinary material but something had to be done with it.
Is it a bit late to do this on a white pine?...Yes!
Do I care? Not really..

You would think with all these branches there are many options, but sadly, no....
P1140773.JPG
The entire top of the tree was useless so that was the first to go. I had no plans for this tree, just made decisions on the run
P1140774.JPG
It had 3 branches down low all coming from the same place. The front one was cut off post haste!
P1140775.JPG
The new leader had a long bare area
P1140776.JPG
So that was shortened as well.

I decided to use the left branch because the right one was completely featureless and lacked anything much to work with - not the the left was much better
P1140778.JPG
The new leader was wired and brought back to the centre and forward a tad. I had to finish this first before I could decide how the main branch would work with it. Up?, down?, long?, short? etc

Apex more or less worked out
P1140780.JPG
The branch came off the tree upwards so I didn't try forcing it down
P1140781.JPG
Instead I brought it down further along

Next couple of pics show the shortened branch and some manipulation of the very sparse branching

That's it for now. A very conventional and non-dramatic tree but at least it has a future.

Thanks for sharing, very helpful for newbies like myself seeing the process you go through. Probably more important for me, a lesson in not trying to preserve the size of larger material just because it's bigger than my twigs.
Cheers
