21ST SUMMIT - 4TH 5TH JULY 2009

Clinton Nesci, the President of The School of Bonsai has confirmed the school will hold their 21st Summit on the 4th, 5th of July and workshop on the 6th of July 2009. Possible additional workshop to be added on the 7th July.The venue for the Seminar will be the Dural Country Club located at 662 Old Northern Road, Dural N.S.W 2158. (No accomodation) The workshops will take place at Ray Nesci Bonsai Nursery located at 26 Sagars Road Dural, N.S.W 2158 approximately an 8 minute drive from the Country Club.

Clinton advised the Summit will again feature an International Guest Speaker and Demonstrator

“We enjoyed the company and skill of Charles Ceronio from South Africa in 2007 and we are looking to Mr Peter Adams accompanied by his wife Kate Adams to capture our attention in 2009

Peter would be known to most bonsai enthusiasts through his collection of published works including his current articles in Bonsai Focus magazine.” Clinton added.

Clinton commented The Summit is traditionally a relaxed and informal atmosphere with a feast of demonstrations and Bonsai Subjects over 2 days (Sat and Sunday)

A relaxed and casual Dinner is a highlight on the Saturday night.

It is envisaged Workshop sessions with Peter Adams will be held on the Monday at the Ray Nesci Bonsai Nursery with a possible additional workshop.

Full details will be advised as they come to hand. It is proposed to have registration documentation and the complete programme available March/ April.

Sounds very interesting. When i was last up there I really should have made the trip out. Oh well next time, or in july...

So how many members are making it to The Summit Weekend and the Peter Adams workshop. What material are you taking to the workshop?

I got a message back From Brian (secratary at the school I think) he said the booking forms should be ready in a week or so.

Peter is very good with getting a very natural effect with the deciduous bonsai. I would like his opinion on trunk chopping but I think it will be most important to have a tree that needs more than cut here advice. After a traul through Ray's nursery when I was last there I could not find what I was looking for so I think I will take my Sejui elm wich is at a more advanced stage. I am hoping to get advice on branch movent and refinement on this(hope he doesn't tell me to start again ) Also maybe my big trident that I am having trouble working out were to trunk chop. I am using one of his trees from his book as a guide on this one. Page 96 of his Bonsai with Japanese Maples Trident Maple twin trunk, if any one is intrested

Yeah I'm definitely there!

Im thinking of taking a large trident that I bought from Ray's the last time I was there. More of a stock tree that needs some trunk chopping and scar carving.

I might see if I can find another that I can do some more advanced styling on.

Does anyone think this will be a more advanced workshop or more intermediate?

I have nothing as yet I think but will have too look Soon though so I have something worthwhile to work on during work shops

This is the elm I am taking. I had planed to let it grow wild until the workshop but took of some primary baranches and wired a couple of weeks ago because I wanted to add it to a display. It is currently going dormant at the same time as a small amount of new growth. One thing I believe is on the cards is a new back branch. Even though these bud out everywere It has refused to give me a bud at the rear where I want it. I may have to graft.
I will get a pic of the trident up soon I will get some pics of the trunk chop trident soon.

Soltan try a thread graft. They work very well on Elms.

From what my experience of Peter is that was 25 years ago mind. He caters for all.
He is a demanding tutor. I will not say what Craig Coussins pupil of Peters says about him. Go in with an open mind you will not be disappointed.
Make sure you have cleaned your tree out ready, so he can see what he has to work with. Hope this helps in some way. Pup

I Was just having a look around this arvo after my other post, and Can see some trees that might be worth while taking to the summit, I do not have any Maples whorthwhile taking but I do have ....

Crabapple - Collected 2 years ago - in a big pot - I have no idea what to do with
Murraya - Collected 2 years ago - in a timber box - Needs Lots of trimming and maybe carving
Azalea - Collected 2 years ago - In a Poly Box - As above

Golden Privet In the Ground outside my back door. I will be removing it soon anyway, and if i do now may well be workable by July. Chopped back real hard when I moved into the new house 4 months ago and is shooting everywhere

They have put together a great programme including three full day workshops and two days of demonstrations by Peter Adams. There are also demonstrations from Dennis McDermott, Ray Nesci & Lee Wright (Native Plants that they have had the most success with for Bonsai) Also Ray’s Play Things

There are two different types of Workshops with Peter a standard full day workshop and a Bonsai Design Program Workshop that includes a full colour drawing of the future direction of your tree with hort and styling plan for the future.
I am enrolled in the Bonsai Design Program Workshop on Monday.
Can't wait but I am having second thoughts on which trees to take?
