Hey guys,
I recently was gifted an acacia podalyriifolia, and want to turn it into a bonsai. I am very new, and I don't know where to start. It's already quite big, and I'm not sure if I can turn it into a bonsai.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Picture for reference.
Thanks

This one will be a bit tricky - Acacias don't shoot back if you cut back to bare wood, so you won't get branching low down. If you like the species, get some tube stock to experiment with, and keep them well cut back each year, to keep the branching where you want it.
You don't list your location - is there a bonsai club nearby? Folk there can help you get the first steps sorted more easily than doing it by yourself.

I missed this post.
I have a number of these that I'm working on from seed. Why?
Because my neighbour has a tree in their back yard and they give up an abundance of seed.
It has taken me awhile to work out how to germinate them, partly because I didn't really know what it was.
Once I worked it out, I applied the method in this article with great success.

I will be interested to see how they all go. Vaguely thinking of putting in a forest.
