Any ideas on species? It was in hard rubbish. Until I liberated it.

My guess is that it's a prunus of some sort.

Possibly some type of Prunus? Do you have a shot of the cut edge/wood?

Those sideways flecks in the bark remind me of the peach family. Will you be planting it in the ground, to get the next set of branch/trunk things thick enough to balance with what you've got?

Yeah - I’m not sure what I will do if it survives.

It was a surprising pickup - hopefully it makes it in straight orchid bark.

Definitely a stone fruit, could be cherry, plum or even peach with that bark. You will have to wait for the leaves.
Well worth keeping me thinks.

Looks very much like a plum to me.
If that is the case, you could be elevated into the "plum club"?

I'm with you Mike. A stump like that needs either really good carving skills or many, many years of growing to match any new shoots to the existing thick trunk. Quicker and easier to start with seed and grow up to that size.

Gotta agree with treeman and shibui; my dad was pulling out a massive old Kanzan Cherry that looked like a slingshot similar thickness.

It has proved a boon in the fire pit, burns very slowly :tu:

Love a good liberated stump! Another +1 for prunus sp. Not a lot to work with there but worth keeping for some carving practice I reckon.

Agreed. Just going to frustrate the bejeezus out of you for 2 decades. Also Luke, this type of material is best planted in pure sand (or even better a sand bed) for the first year then repotted into a more substantial mix. It will make much better root system that way.

It was free - just curious on i.d.

I ran out of horticulture sand and wanted it pot into something quick smart given I couldn’t say how long it was the nature strip.
