I got this Ash from an Adelaide bonsai show last year. This is the first year I’d seen the roots, which dictated the planting angle. I don’t have a before photo.

Very nice looking tree! Curious though, what angle was it before?
Initial impression is this tree could lean over much further to the left, say 30 degrees off the horizon, then lop off the left branch? Might be too extreme but just a thought.

It was in a regular pot, straight up and down but leaning forward as it has a bit of a pot belly toward the viewer. I bought it as stock so I’m wondering if it was a large root sucker someone dug up?
I’ll see next repot how much further it can lean. For now I’m not being brave and just trying to get a regular tree shape out of it.

Mmm not sure if it's one of mine... if it had GJS on the tag it was. I did have a few ash stumps for sale at the show. If it was one of mine it would've been cut fairly flat on the bottom. Not a sucker.

I’m not sure but I think both the Ash I’ve bought from there were labelled Hugo. And the triple trunk plum I’ve posted. Not 100% but at least something I bought had a Hugo tag. They take off the tag when you buy it so I’ve probably recalled incorrectly.

Just a thought, wouldn't it look better to chop it to the lowest branch and plant in the ground or large pot for a better front and a more tapered look?
