thank god for education. after many mistakes and mind changes. as of yesterday. it now has to fill out over the next few years and more refined carving needs to be done. i wish i could have my time with this tree over again but this is what it is .

Ant - if you have access to Bonsai Focus, Bonsai Europe or Bonsai Magazine number 51 (name changes confuse me!) there is an article on Quercus Ilex (Holm Oak) that looks a bit like your Olive and might give you some ideas for the future development.
I really like it and I think its got a future as a top quality bonsai.

4 short years and what an improvement Antonio! There is a lesson for us all there about proportions and ratios.
Thanks for sharing the progression pal!

Steven

again fellas thankyou very much for the compliments.
watto bonsai today 51 that might be. i will look out for it next year when the club library opens back up.if anyone has it and would like to scan and pm me the photo i would appreciate it alot. world class aye? thats what im aiming for, thankyou for your belief in that possability.
jamie my man, it measures 280mm across the base and stands 450mm high. as squat as it is with a ratio like that, it carries it well. ( think about why)
steven imo i should have been a little further down the track by now , but am content with my progress so far. im in the right place at the right time.

hmmmm.
with a ratio of about approx. 1.5:1 it seems to carry it so well due to the tapering of the trunk and the placement of branches i would think. moreso to the taper, going from a fat base to a slender top with a smooth tranistion of taper, i think this is what makes it carry quite nicely, i also think that the right hand branch you have got there thats nearly coming out of the tuber gives it a feeling of width in the middle without taking away from the taper
thats what i think any ways
and i think the point ya making is that this was done by chopping the trunks to create the taper yes ?
cheers
jamie
