Can it be saved?

Hi all
I'm new to collecting garden material.
My mum is doing a bit of rearranging and culling in her garden. She dig out this old tea tree of some sort. I asked her about it after she had already cut a lot back of the tree and I wasn't there when she dug it out.
It has been sitting in this tub for almost two days but now has soil in there. Have I missed some crucial steps to save this? And do you think it's worth it?
Cheers
