Custom pot for Japanese Maple suggestions
Hi all,
I have just acquired a beautiful Murasaki Kiyohime Maple that is in development.
It is going to need a new pot in the next year or so, and I'd love suggestions on who you think are Australia's best potters for glazed pot.
I have many Luke Parsons pots (I think I have more than a dozen now), so I'd like to give other potters a go (sorry, Luke)
I'm thinking an oval pot with no lip or a small lip with a drippy glaze. Being a Murasaki Kiyohime, it typically has orange/red border to the vibrant green leaves (this is the summer growth after defoliation in photo). Id like something vibrant and bold without taking away from the tree. Autumn colours can be vibrant orange, too.
Blues, yellow, and cream glazes all come to mind, but I'm open to being different too.
Who do you recommend for Australian pots to suit deciduous trees?

Okay so I haven't had much success in finding what I am after within Australia.
Where would you recommend to get a glazed oval worthy of showing (not training pot) ie Walter Venne, Derek Aspinall, Mariusz Folda, Wallsall, and of course Tokaname.

For Tokoname pots i use the seller tokonamejp on ebay; brand new pots only not antique but never had a bad experience as far a shipping, wide range of well known and not so well known potters to choose from and prices range from ~$150 + postage all the way up from there. Might take a while for something suitable to pop up on there but i have no hesitation in recommending buying from the seller.

Walsal try bonsai Island they have a few might save you on international postage. https://www.bonsaiisland.net/shop/pots/
Also try Fiona bonsai pots NZ https://www.fionnasbonsaipots.com/ good quality she makes custom and the exchange rate is usually in your favour.
Bought from both great pots well packed and quick post.
Cheers

Yep Bonsai Island well worth a follow up, I grabbed two Walsall pots from them at the YVBS show and they are sensational provided you like a matte glaze not glossy

Hey Luke,
Since you're branching out from the Aussie potter's, what about something like a Shuhou (Tokoname)?
Hit me up if you're interested - these are round not oval.
Cheers,
Pearcy.
