I got whips as you do every year from Neil.

I thought i might try a few root over rocks using just wire to attach the roots to the rock and a very open mix to really pump out the root production.

Ive been collecting these red rocks for this years attempts, its not lava rock its pretty dense and not much of it around.

I tied 3 whips together with wire then mounted the roots on with more wire in the places i wanted them to be best shown. Then potted up in akadama, pumice, scoria, pine nuggets.

June 2020 - whips aquired and mounted on rock
June 2021 - revealed the roots have been bitten by wire and is growning over it. Wire was removed what could be removed and potted above soil in orchid pot.
June 2022 - put in bonsai pot to one side no idea what i was thinking maybe room for a fishermen statue maybe.
June 2023 - i may repot the tree this spring in a different pot. Still progressing with branch development.

Nice work on the root over rocks. I tired a similar thing a couple of years ago as a test. I had success. I struggled to find interesting rocks to use though. One was created using al foil and the other is cling wrap. I liked the results of the foil. Can you tell which is which A friend now has one of these but one died the first summer after it was exposed.

I plan to create a batch of trident ones this year.

That root growth is excellent for just a few years, Peach Slices. JM roots always seem to take much longer for me.

Nice root arrangement on yours too Keels. Now they need some time and growth to thicken the roots and get an interesting trunk up top.

Honestly speaking i think its that powerful due to the fact its the tap root maybe????

It was made using 3 tap roots.
