Two cedars , Both approx 50 years old , both always grown in a pot. This process of bark development of cedars especially take time. Ive seen large cedar bonsai ground grown and speed up but they usually lacking this kind of bark development.

Another keeper Matt, stunning old bark that only time can develop. Could I trouble you to see the whole tree please.

Good bark is what got me hooked on a lot of species.

Timely video was up this morning from Greenwood bonsai, which shows how bark develops on a field-grown tree. Not as nice, nor in proportion to the overall tree.

Good things can't be rushed.

crap picture. Tree is large just under 100cm. trunk is about 100mm. roots do flare well hard to see in pic. I had to repot it back in same broken pot as i do not have large enough pot for it atm. It broke the pot in 2 places been root bound.
News flash boys and girls dont let trees go 15 years before repotting.
Not a scar basically on this tree and the bark is to the tip of tree. Pot grown since the 70's
