You should be burying the entire root ball after warapping.
this will help the roots stay close to the rock and will also improve the growth of the roots themselves

hi, LZRD84
exactly how i do my ficus, above ground, you can see whats going on.
i use budding tape to secure the roots to the rock, this way you have the
roots where you want them. after about 12 months i pull the cling wrap
off, and cut the budding tape off. they should then support themselves. well done.

yea ken. i see what you're saying, but i am using a clay muck to really give the roots and rootball that sort of protection/nutrients.
i substituted the tape method with some biodegradable string from bunnings, glad wrap, spagh moss, and also got some clay muck to really put the roots right on the rock and also as previously mentioned, to give it additional source of nutrients/protection.
platinum indeed! thanks bra.
Dunno if its a new technique, but its new to me!
All credit goes to Lee Wilson for dropping bombs of knowledge on me one afternoon and teaching me this interesting approach to root over rock. (or as his encouraging personal example, root over massive mangrove driftwood! unreal...)
I'll ask him if i can share that with you petra
lzrd out.
