Hi Everyone,

I have a JBP (at least I think it's a JBP) and one of the branches appears to have died...

Is anyone able to offer some advice please? If it is dead I might just turn it into a Jin.

Thanks,

Matt

I think you can safely say that branch is indeed dead.
Why I have no idea but it is probably a blessing as you were starting to get inverse taper as it is directly opposite the branch heading left in that picture.
You can definitely jin it, and if you do I would suggest stripping the bark back into the trunk line just a tad to help mitigate that bulge in conjunction with carving down the dead wood at the trunk/branch junction.
In terms of styling, I’m gonna assume you want to go with a literati/bunjin look, in which case you might consider adding a bit of extra movement to the trunk line sooner rather than later… just my feeling, but you do you.

Hi Ryceman3,

Thank you for the feedback. That sounds like a good idea. I might do some wiring the accentuate the taper heading off in the oppositye direction.

I'm not sure what to do with the trunk at this stage. Maybe just a simple bend / wave.

Thank you for your help
