Spring seems to be earlier this year. Species that usually flower for spring shows in October are already opening up flowers.

Flowers already opening on this little azalea.
Cherry plums have already come and gone but Prunus 'Elvins' is showing why it is a favourite flowering plum for gardens and bonsai. This one isn't bonsai yet but a spectacular show of flowers. Also not bonsai. I believe one of the common names for this one is Dwarf Russian Almond. Usually a multi stemmed shrub sometimes found in older gardens.

I bought this Japanese quince Chaenomeles japonica from a nursery last year. Trimmed it back and photographed it today. I am hoping it develops well because the flowers are beautiful. I'll know for sure in 10 years or so.

Flowers increased this year to 112. My pruning and feeding regime certainly works.

They will only flower next Sept from the latest/youngest growth. Make sure you feed through autumn with liquid potash in addition to your normal feed routine. After all leaves have dropped prune back to second or third bud on new growth that formed last. I choose this bud looking at it's direction to see which way the flowers will fall. If you want your flowers to be closer to the trunk you will have to prune out older wood but you will not have any flowers for a couple of seasons as you have to wait for your new growth to apply the pruning method. I hope the attachment opens ok for you. Re-pot every 2 yrs removing only 3cm from bottom and all round root ball. I have achieved two flowering cycles in one season by same pruning method after flowers drop but second set were weaker and not as large so I ceased that practice and only now prune for one flower season. Never let it dry out.

It's the best time of year. You can even start to smell the soil in the ground warming up.

Wisteria are now opening at Yackandandah.
This one is probably close to peak flowering today. That tree was grown from seed. The flower colour is not as strong as some of the clonal wisterias.

Azaleas are also flowering. Most of mine are suffering petal blight but this one seems to cope better than many.

A little Crab Apple flowering at the moment . This is an airlayer which should have really stayed in its training pot but I couldn’t resist putting it into a nice pot for the flower show . I will probably put it back into a ‘pond’pot for the summer .

It's not often I see flowers on my trees but did spot this Melaleuca had put out a few blooms (best viewed from the back of the tree of course! )
I don't remember this one throwing any flowers at all in previous years, might have been trimming it before it had a chance most probably but I'll let these ones entertain the bees for a while longer and then look to trim this tree back into shape. They're a nice compact size for this tree which is a bonus.
