Melaleuca Preissiana - From Tubestock

This is a Mel Preissiana I got from the nursery as tubestock some time in 2021.

It hasn't been potted up to bigger sizes over the years. It's remained in fairly small pots, hence the slim trunk still. This wasn't on purpose, just a matter of having too many trees and not getting time to pot it up.

I'm training it to be a medium sized tree, and am taking my design inspiration from a Mel Preissiana I photographed in the wild. It's a stout upright tree that has a gradual slant and minimal taper (see photo below).

I've just wired up all the branches to get initial twists and movement at this stage. I'll let it grow out a fair bit now and then probably cut back hard to get sharper angles later on when things thicken. There's two potential sides for the front right now, each with their own merit :imo:
