This callistamon's dimension of the trunk is 5 cm across at the base.I have just taken it off this afternoon and potted it up but im not sure of how much to cut off the top half of this tree. He tands at 128 cm high at the moment,so if some one could please tell me where i should cut to balance this tree i would very much appreciate it. Also I know this tree has no movement in the trunk, as it first was an experiment and i really didnt think it would take. Yes you noticed that there is cotton gause with spagnum moss around the layer, this is the experiment. As the trunk went strait up i found It harder to keep the spagnum together while i wraped it in plastic, i tried this method of wraping spagnum in fine gause instead. see pictures below.this fine gause will break down over time once in the soil. Also using the fine gause it doesnt seem to dry out as fast. Id like to hear your thoughts to this methodalso.cheers!

oops! Hmm, the pictures of the tree in question.

i would wait until you get some back budding for now petra, then see where it is in 6 months.
make sure it lives before you spend to much time on it.

Whith the amount of roots you got in your layer I would expect it to back bud profusely very quickly

As soon as you see new shoot develop and start to extend, I would cut back any branches or foliage you do not need

Petra you have a very good amount of roots there. What you need to do now is cut back all branches and twigs to two pair of leaves.
Then leave it till next March.
Then you should have so much growth that you will have the same dilemma.

What a good idea Petra. I guess you could use that method and still wrap it in plastic once you have put it on. I like the idea of clear plastic as it creates condensation just in case you miss a water or two. I will give it a go.

OOOPS Guys Im so sorry that i didnt explain my method very well. I did still wrap it up in plastic as well. Thanks for pointing this out Bodhi. And thank you all for your replys.Cheers!

That is an awesome amount roots growing from that layer, i suppose you just gotta let it fluff out now then work back from the other direction, i'd consider using a fruit box though.
I agree too, with these roots it will explode with new growth.
