Hi guys,

I haven't posted forever but over the last week or so, I have had the best customer service experience from any nursery owner ever. The man bent over backwards to help me get what I was looking for and has some really rare native and non-native species in the nursery or that can be sourced.

I have no relationship with the nursery but I think endorsing it by name here might breach advertising rules? But it was so helpful, if your looking for those types of trees, I really want to share it with you guys.

Maybe PM me? Or mods, can I name the nursery here?

The nursery is called 'Sequoia Valley Farms', Southern Highlands, NSW. I believe those from the Canberra Bonsai Society are familiar with him.

Shannon, who helped me pretty much offered to go through all his contacts and favours to secure some coast redwoods for me. He, like everyone else, was sold out but in the end and after a number of really detailed and helpful email responses, he found two that he was able to send to me in Sydney.

He also said send me your list of desired, hard to find species and he would do the same call out to see what he could find. He noted a couple of species he will have available soon that I had not heard of and look good for bonsai training Nothofagus gunii, and Eucalyptus verrucosa.

Hope this is helpful for people out there who want to try out the strange, non-traditional species. Good luck with it guys. As I mentioned in OP. I'm not associated with the nursery just really impressed with the service and potential stock.

They do have an amazing range of awesome species. Not cheap, but species you will struggle to get anywhere else.

On the Nothofagus gunnii, good luck keeping one alive in Sydney. Jarryd Bailey from Montane Bonsai in Tasmania has managed to grow some well, but I hear they are almost impossible outside their range or where they don't get cold winters and cool summers. I have heard they may do best with a very well draining mix with very regular watering.

I may be wrong, but the last time I went out to Ash and Dave at Bonsai World in Jilliby (only 1 hour north of Sydney), those guys had good stock of Coastal Redwoods for sale too. They have an enormous range of material for bonsai, including our native Mt Kauri Black Pine and a tonne of other awesome stock to trial.
