Do any of you learned Gentlemen know where I can get Swamp Cypress from around my area? Please.
Not worried about the size, but obviously the bigger the better, I'm not getting any younger

canelands nursery has 2 or 3 out the back in the grow area bout $80 each, i was gonna get one but couldnt justify it at the time after buying a whole heap of shimpaku and a couple of figs

oh i should say size.

bout 1 and a half to 2 inches diameter at the soil level, might be wider at base under soil!

yea maybe, i tried to talk one of the ladies down but had no luck, even when i spent a bit there, they are pretty set on price. ya never know though, you might get lucky

they have pretty much bolt upright trunks too. great fomal upright material. not much taper though as could be presumed.
there are right down the back in there grow area, as you walk down the grow area, back left, in behind some lilly pilly.

Doesn't matter what they look like Jamie, did I tell you about a method of growing Swampies really fastly with huge taper and beautiful foliage?

i got a young swampie that i potted up to a larger pot, have kept it absolutly soaked. in a tray of water, i noticed last night that since potting up, which wasnt that long ago and having it sitting in the tray it has thick new roots growing out into the water...

maybe thats a bit of a fast grow method because it has doubled in size and the foliage has just gone nuts, well fed has helped to i think, but just keeping them wet and letting them grow out a fair bit before chopping is the wa to go, then repeat the process.

if your after a big swampy to save yourself some time they have awsome stock at bonsai australia grower, up to 30cm thick, reasonably priced to for the size, with excellent taper

The Templex Nursery sells 1.5 - 2.5cm trunk bonsai starters for $10 each. The Australian bonsai grower has as big as 20cm trunk bonsai swampies but I don't remember the price.

Im not sure where in QLD you are but if you go out to Bonsai Australian Grower, Hubner Road, Park Ridge (-Phone (07) 3803 3060.)

Steve has heaps of swampies all sizes and stacks of new shoots on them at the moment too I was out there a few weeks back and picked up this one for $30. i think the next size up is $70ish and then he has some larger again

i will be heading there tomorrow for sure they look like they have a great range. different stock at all varying ages and size.

I visited Australian Bonsai Grower in December and was impressed with the amount of Swampy and JBP stock they carried. I was also very impressed with Mr and Mrs Rawkins pair of Swampies. Steve told me that they are having a bit of a styling competition between them. Can you guess who's is who's?

Thanks for this tip guys. I had forgotten all about Steve and his wonderful set up.
Used to deal with him years ago when I was involved in the Darwin Bonsai Club. We held a Black Pine Workshop up there with Mick Balzary and got all our stock of Steve. He finished up throwing a couple of Black Pines in for free (I think I even got a Red Pine of him for some reason, which didn't matter as it did not like the Tropics ), which was no mean feat as we were dealing in $100 and up stock.
If memmory serves me correctly I think he even paid the frieght bill, or a bit of it anyhow. Hell of a nice guy, will have to re=establish contact with him again.

have yo been down to canelands yet?

Ummmmmmmmmmm, well yes matter of fact I have. But, they were closed so I have to try again.
But Steve's stock/prices sound a better deal to me ............. and I would be buying of a Bonsai Guy
